This is my guide to concrete. Concrete may not seem like a very sexy subject to write about but I hope that by the time you reach the end of this blog, you will have been inspired to use concrete to improve your home. Concrete isn't just for driveways and walls. You can use concrete in a lot of pretty creative ways around your home. I discovered this when I hired a team of concrete contractors. They were really great guys and while they were completing work around my home they taught me lots of cool things about working with concrete. I hope you enjoy this blog!
If you have moved into a home that has not been renovated in many years, your thoughts may be turning to the job at hand. Many people in this situation will start with the floor, especially if the driveway, garage and residential surfaces are made with concrete. Certainly, this can present a big challenge, and you might think that replacement is the most logical solution; but before you incur those considerable costs, think about concrete dye instead. How can this transform your new acquisition?
Out with the Grey
As you probably know, the natural colour of concrete is a dull grey. In the old days, contractors would stick to this ready-made colour even if they created a "stamped" effect for the back patio.
Stains and Dyes
Today, you can revolutionise appearance by introducing concrete dyes or acid stains instead. After all, these products come in many different forms depending on the location and nature of the existing floor. For example, some dye stains are designed for colouring polished concrete to leave behind some vibrant and beautiful colours instead of that predictable sheen.
Pleasing the Auto Enthusiast
You can create a much more durable and repellent surface on your garage floor when you apply a concrete dye. It will clean easily and will resist chemical spills or oils. Some people love to add a concrete floor design in the shape of the chequered racing flag, especially if they are motor racing enthusiasts at heart.
Creating an Indoor Effect
Think about applying concrete dye to create an aged or rustic pattern. This can be a great approach if you are looking at some surfaces indoors—and like the traditional look. You may need to apply a new base coat first before contractors add a contrasting colour on top using hand tools.
Driveway Renovation
For the driveway, you will certainly want to include special ultraviolet resistant sealants. With that said, you can colour the surface of your concrete drive with a subtle shade of green or another colour that complements your home's exterior decor.
Handing over to the Professionals
As you can see, there are many and varied products and approaches available, no matter how much concrete you have in your old home. Also, your efforts will be rewarded, as you can certainly add some property value to your home by refurbishing the floors. However, always entrust this work to professionals if you want to achieve the best outcome and ensure that your renovation is an absolute success.
