Concrete: My Guide

This is my guide to concrete. Concrete may not seem like a very sexy subject to write about but I hope that by the time you reach the end of this blog, you will have been inspired to use concrete to improve your home. Concrete isn't just for driveways and walls. You can use concrete in a lot of pretty creative ways around your home. I discovered this when I hired a team of concrete contractors. They were really great guys and while they were completing work around my home they taught me lots of cool things about working with concrete. I hope you enjoy this blog!

Benefits of Spray On Concrete for Residential Projects

Blog

When you hear the term spray-on concrete, you may not understand the uses for residential projects. This type of concrete is sprayed into place rather than being placed in the traditional pour method. If you have smaller residential projects like patios and walkways, then a spray-on concrete may be ideal. Here are some of the benefits and what you need to know about each one.

Quicker Curing Times

One of the leading benefits, especially for residential projects, is the curing time. The spray-on method, both wet and dry, offers a quicker curing time than their pour method counterparts. This is because the mixtures are usually dryer than the mixed and poured concrete. They are sprayed in a finer layer which allows the layers to begin drying quickly. This gives you a reduced drying time and allows you to set the concrete areas quickly to move forward with the project and doing any finishing work necessary. You can also have waterproofing applied earlier than you would with traditional pour on concrete methods.

Reduced Cracking

An issue many people are concerned with is the cracking of concrete patios and driveways during the curing time. The spray-on method helps to reduce the chances of cracking and breaking during the drying process. This means a reduced chance of water damage and of the breakdown of the concrete layers. If the cracks are minor, you can get water into the area and have a concrete breakdown and even crack further.

Design Options

One of the benefits of using a spray-on concrete option is the ability to spray on concrete in designs and colours. This gives you more creative options with walkways, entryways, and patios. If you have a specific design, like a mosaic, you can do this with concrete spraying and styles. You can also add things like waterproofing, colour, and other options to your spray-on concrete to aid in design options and creative artisan-style looks.

When you are ready to begin your concrete project, contact your local contractor. They can give you the spray on concrete options available to you. They can discuss the options with you and what may be best for your situation. Once you narrow down the ideal ones for you, discuss the start date for your concrete project with your contractor. They can also help with pricing and other questions you may have. Call today for more information about this kind of concrete.
